The phrase “Rain or shine, snow or sleet” is not only the postal service’s creed but also applies to the fans of Rim Country’s favorite country-western band, Junction 87.
The second annual Park and Party at Payson Care Center in Payson, Arizona, on May 15, 2015, was interrupted but not halted by rain. The party was moved indoors, and still more than 200 fans showed up to dance and enjoy free hot dogs and hamburgers.
Payson Care Center sponsors Park and Party each year as part of its National Nursing Home Week celebration.
Besides being a good excuse to bring a popular band to play, the party also celebrated Payson Care Center’s being awarded Rim Country’s Best Long-term Care Facility again this year by the Payson Roundup readers’ poll.
The event included many of Payson Care Center’s long-term care residents. The residents really enjoyed watching the many dancers that “tore up the floor” in the facility’s main dining room.
Lynn Ferguson, activities assistant, who danced throughout the evening with her husband, said she just got a kick out of having the residents watch them dance.
“You could tell how much they were enjoying the event,” Ferguson said. “I felt that was very special.”
